Aftercare Program and
SHIP Permanent Housing Program
The Aftercare
Program offers continued support services to youth after they leave the
shelter. This voluntary program can help the youth continue their goal
plan that they started while they were shelter residents.
The SHIP Permanent Housing Program
offers assistance
in locating and keeping safe, affordable housing. This program is
available to income qualified individuals ages 18 to 25 and families
with head of household 18 years old and up. We can help:
-
Create a
household budget based on current income
-
Determine
what can be paid for rent, utilities and other housing expenses
-
Find safe,
affordable housing in the community
-
Pay part of the
security deposit on an apartment that fits a budget
-
Connect with
other services such as transportation, continuing education, childcare
and job training
-
Goal planning
for the future
The Aftercare
Coordinator provides help to SHIP participants to stay on track with
regular home visits, connection with case management services,
tenant-landlord mediation and crisis intervention. In 2008 WAIT House
received its second five-year SHIP grant from the New York State Office
of Temporary and Disability Assistance.
